Central Grocery's Muffuletta

Central Grocery in the French Quarter has been serving this sandwich since 1906. The Grocery is widely credited for introducing this sandwich to the United States.
The sandwich begins with a large round loaf of Italian bread. It is filled with salami, ham, and provolone. The spread that is used truly makes this sandwich unique. The fragrant and spicy melange consisted of olive oil, green & black olives, peppers, carrots, anchovies and garlic.
